Since my left channel along with midbass horn is more or less configured I made today a first rest of the full assembly - with LF section. The midbass does somewhere hear 40Hz and I set the LF section for 34Hz, drove it from B2 via the SMS crossover....

Of course you can do it all by ear, and I found that there were times when "my ears disagreed with the meter". As you note, signal strength and "quality" also relate to "mode" (such as Multipath), and not only broadcasts but also tuners vary as to wh...

-Background- Enspired by Jeffery Jacksons system as displayed @ VSAC, I'm building a five-way horn system. Tapped horn for up to ~80Hz; w/ Eminence driver 65Hz Tractrix from ~80Hz to ~400Hz w/ fane 8"; 250Hz LeCleach from ~400Hz to ~2...

Hi Romy,Many thanks: the answers are...1. The tweeter I thought could go below the MF.2. The room is 5m x 5m x 3.6m.3. Given size of room, corner location would be most practical.4. LF will have to be compact, hence tapped horn appeals.5. S2 diaphrag...
Perhaps I misunderstand the unity horn, but I did not mean my suggestion to depend on summation: the idea simply is that one horn flows directly into the other, rather than being discrete; you could have the bottom or top half al...

You are very welcome! Keep in mind however, that I do not pretend that my "sound" is anything special at this stage--I'm very much on thebeginning of a long journey, progressing slowly. What I offer is a chance to listen to O2MkI with a +/- advanced...
Adding 1uf more and the horn being to sound like Altec horns…
Interesting. I'm wondering here if this is the key to eliminating the honkiness I hear in most horn installations. From your experiments, it seems that...

If there is any info in this or another post about why the S2 is so much better than the Altec 288c please direct me. If not what makes the S2 drivers so different than a 288C? (I am talking about 288'cs that the 24 ohm diaphragms have been...

DA, from what you say I do not think you need actions to do now. As I understand the power transformer for the amps most likely has been made. Since you are in design phase and the look forward to have a sever voltage then get 1-2A 12V transformer w...
When I get my
playback right then I will embark on the third phase of my journey....listening
and learning about more meaningful music.
Actually, I disagree with this approach. It is
like you are searching a needle in a h...

Our hearing is very elastic for everything except phase. We can learn to compensate for errors in frequency response easily. My personal experience with sense of space is also very much an acqired response. When I listen to my playback after a coupl...

The answer will be a complicated one, as the preamp is driving an active crossover. The many storage elements means the impedance is a function of frequency. There is no "10k ohms" answer. I hope you are driving these network with s...

Once you figure out where you want the LF drivers you could put them in a "cabinet" of lesser dimension and run that "cabinet" through the floor, using the basement, or part of it, for more volume/IB. That could "solve" the IB footprint problem, and...

You see, even Romy, who openly detests the Lowther, is right there to steer Lowther lovers to cogent information he has turned up during his eternal foraging for useful hi-fi trivia. Thanks, Romy! The chart on the juice bottle looks VERY interesting!&n...

Hi Romy,
I just want to add my experience I had last year with a transformer based (actually it was an autoformer based) "passive" preamp. I thought that this could be the final solution in my preamp quest. Alas, it was not the case.&nbs...

I agree i have been making mistakes even costly ones. I had taken the biamping route with cary and krell on B&W , and that was the purpose of getting both the amps, to get the best out of both ,,,,,,it turned out mixing oil and water,,,,,the most...

Zanon, I suppose this is one way to spin it (sorry...), since most of us probably do want some sort of "effects" along with our plain-and-simple "reproduction". And certainly some amps and pre-amps do actually do it, if to a lesser extent (degree......

Interestsing... I thought the BD horns sounded noticably better than any other exhibit. It was not without problems, but was suprisingly good. The Festrex 5" was good in a limited range-- but get it out of that frequency range and or dyna...

Hi RomyHeifetz as sex with a marble woman - yes, exactly! Everything is perfect but without any emotional response. I am sure that the recorded sound he was usually given does not help - thin, scrawny & screechy - while rep...

The most interesting thing I have heard that I did not seriously follow up on was rear channels. Years ago I heard one that was done by a retired recording engineer who had integrated it well enough that ...

Hafler, Carver, polk and most professional mastering has a technique that actually came from MS recording techniques. A MS microphone array has a "mono" microphone and a figure 8 bipole microphone above it. The stereo spread is controlled by altering...

Hello Romy! When I listened to the Goebel NXT speaker I was impressed how it can reveal structure or the absence of it at levels where one would really have to concentrate on when listening to a conventional speaker, and I find, ev...

wow.thanks for comments.La Grande Castine will not be as expensive as Cessaro Gamma.i am sorry but i cannot answer to all questions, for several reasons you can understand.we have tested many drivers since the early prototype of La Grande Castine. BM...

When you set in your chair looking and listening 2 your sound system you are trying to create in your mind and your ears the illusion of instruments placement on the stage in front of you, to make it more lifelike and real. So you putting horns behin...

Hi Jeff,I am certain that the best midbass was NEVER in a corner horn. Every fold in the horn is a new resonance. Corner horns need many folds...In addition, if you are very "anal retentive" about phase alignment - how do you integrate a corner horn?...

Some Hypex-type sub amps with ULF X/Os have high level inputs. Maybe this is a way to feed the thing from your DSET, if this is a goal for you? I think most of this type X/O and amp combination have an input buffer, and most of them have 180/variab...

Well, this is the difficult time, embedding a changing, complex system into a new, large room. I am not clear if the sound has changed over time (since you were more positive about the sound, earlier) or if you have just become more aware of aspects...

Now that I have the Omega injection channel phase aligned I am finding it extremely interesting. I think I want 3 or 4 injection channel drivers/arrangements for the different types of music. The Omega works great for vocal and woodwind (which I list...

That's horribly disappointing for now but I think Jessie is right.Firstly, as you essentially said, I wonder if the horns are coupling into the room such that you actually have much bigger devices than you thought... you are actually sitting inside t...

Hello - pretty new to the goodsoundclub.com. Lets say I want to build my own 3-way horn loaded Hifi System. Is there any literature how to design the horns? lets say if I would have some nice 3d-drawings of one already existing 3-way horn loaded syst...
